Graduated from NSD, New Delhi  in 1996 in Production Process and a course in Design from Mountview Theatre School, London in 1998. Suman is B.Ed. from Patna University and is hon's in Physics from Magadh university. 

 

Suman has directed plays, explored themes, improvised situations, written musicals, devised stage versions on poems and other non-dramatic-texts. Shakespeare, Chekhov, Brecht, O’Neill, J. M. Synge, Bhishm Sahni, Premchand, Harishankar Parsai, Neruda, Muktibodh ,Simborshka, Dhumil, Rajkamal Chaudhary and Faiz  were the sources for his dramatic mounting on stage. He has written about 30 performing scripts for stage.

 

Given Contemporary Hindustani expressions to the concepts, theories and practicespopular in the world theatre, theatre training methodologies and practices with an historical perspective. Written on Stanislavasky, Grotowaski, Michal Saint Danish, Brecht, Augusto Boul, Peter Brook, Kalidasa, Natyashastra. 

 

Suman has frequently conducted, directed theatre training workshops for NSD, Sangeet Natak Akademi, Sahitya Kala Parishad and is visiting faculty for the drama departments in the universities in India. He has conducted several expression-n-communication, Drama Therapy workshops for General Managers, Officers and Service Holders, Street and Specially Challenged Children.

Participated in an International Theatre Festival of Drama Schools at Copenhagen, Denmark in 1996 with a play "Tin Ka Nanha Sepahi" based on a Danish story " The Little Tin Soldier".  Lead an Indian Cultural Troupe to Peru and Cuba for “Indian Festival in Latin American Countries” in 2012. His directed plays have been selected as best plays of Delhi and participated in Bhartendu Rang Mahotsav of Sahitya Kala Parishad, Delhi and Urdu Academy Drama Festival.

Working as Deputy Secretary(drama/ICH/Folk & Tribal Arts ) in Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi since April 2012. Member of Advisory Commitee on ICH (Intangible Cultural Heritage) and Memory of World Register. 

सुमन कुमार 

8 दिसम्बर 1967 में बांका, बिहार में जन्म. 

1996 में राष्ट्रीय नाट्य विद्यालय, दिल्ली से और 1998 में माउंटव्यू थिएटर स्कूल, लन्दन से डिजाईन में प्रशिक्षित सुमन ने पटना विश्वविद्यालय से बी. एड.(91-92)  और मगध विश्वविद्यालय से भौतिकी में होनर्स(1988) की पढाई की है. 1984 से इप्टा, पटना से जुड़ कर रंगकर्म में सक्रीय हुए.

सुमन ने नाटक लिखे, निर्देशित और अभिकल्पित किया तथा विविध विषयों पर संगीतिकों, नाटकीय अभिव्यक्तियों की रचना की. कविताओं और अनाटकीय कथ्य और साहित्य को मंच पर प्रस्तुति करने के लिए विशेष रूप से चर्चित रहे. रुपांतरण, अनुवाद और नाट्य लेखन से 30 से भी अधिक मंचित प्रस्तुतियों के हजारों मंचन विविध भाषाओँ और शैलियों में हुआ. सुमन ने शेक्सपियर, जे.एम. सिंज, चेखव, ब्रेख्त, ओ नील, भीष्म सहनी, प्रेमचंद, हरिशंकर पारसाई, नेरुदा, मुक्तिबोध, शिम्बोर्शाका, धूमिल, राजकमल चौधरी, काशीनाथ सिंह, फ़ैज़, रांगेय राघव, निर्मल वर्मा, उमाकांत चौधरी आदि की रचनाओं से प्रेरित नाट्य अनुभव को दर्शकों के साथ सांझा किया. 

रंगमंच के भारतीय एवं विदेशी विविध विचार, अभ्यास, सन्दर्भ, जीवन और दर्शन तथा प्रयोग सूत्रों और प्रशिक्षण पद्धतियों पर सुमन ने कई आलेख भी लिखें हैं. बाल, युवा और शोकिया कलाकारों के साथ कई भाषाओं, बोलियों में प्रशिक्षण कार्यशालाओं का आयोजन और सञ्चालन करने वाले सुमन ने विशेष रूप से चुनोतियों का सामना करने वाले बच्चों के लिए भी रंगमंच को उनके रचनात्मक सम्प्रेषण का उपादान बनाया. 

रंगमंच के मौलिक आस्वादन का नया अनुभव सृजन के लिए सतत प्रयोगशील सुमन कुमार ने एक अभिनेता, निर्देशक, परिकल्पक, प्रशिक्षक और नाटककार के रूप में योगदान देते हुए, 2012 से संगीत नाटक अकादेमी, दिल्ली के एक अधिकारी के रूप में रंगमंच, लोक कला एवं अमूर्त सांस्कृतिक विरासत की सेवा में कार्यरत हैं. सुमन ने डेनमार्क, लन्दन, पेरू और क्यूबा में रंगमंच और प्रदर्शन के सन्दर्भ में अभिनेता, नाटककार और व्यस्थापक के रूप में यात्रा की. 

रंगमंच में योगदान के लिए सुमन को पटना में आंसु संवाद लेखन पुरस्कार तथा कलाश्री सम्मान, राष्ट्रीय नाट्य विद्यालय एवं संगीत नाटक अकादेमी, दिल्ली की छात्रवृत्ति एवं अध्धयनवृत्ति, चार्ल्स वैल्स इंडिया ट्रस्ट स्कालरशिप, भारत सरकार की कनिष्ट संस्कृति फ़ेलोशिप के साथ 2012 में नाट्य लेखन के लिए महिंद्रा एक्सेलेंसी अवार्ड दिया गया. सुमन को नाट्य लेखन के लिए रास कला सम्मान, नटसम्राट सम्मान भी मिला है। 2017 में आल इंडिया फोक आर्टिस्ट फेडरेशन द्वारा "लोक कलाविद सम्मान", हिंदी अकादमी, दिल्ली सरकार के द्वारा 2017-2018 का "नाटक सम्मान". 

समझोता, अंधरे में, मुक्ति-प्रसंग, एक तारा टूटा, गगन घटा गहरानी, सूरा सों पहचानिए, सूरज का संतवा घोड़ा, दिल्ली की दीवार, ऑथेलो, मैकबेथ, द राइज एंड फल ऑफ़ थे सिटी ऑफ़ महागोनी, द प्लेबॉय ऑफ़ द वेस्टर्न वर्ल्ड, एक्सेप्शन एंड थे रूल, अग्नि और बरखा, चेखोव की दुनिया, ट्रेन तो पाकिस्तान, महामहिम, दस दिन का अनशन, स्वर्गलोक में डेमोक्रेसी, ब्लैकबोर्ड ब्रिगेड, बालचरित, अस्सी-बहरी अलंग, सत्याग्रह, बूढी काकी, कसप, नुगरा का तमासा, परिंदे, गदल, महादेव, नटवर ने बांसुरी बजाई, खारु का खरा किस्सा, कंकाल आदि कई मंच आलेख लिखे जिनका मंचन देश में कई भाषाओं में विविध रूपों में मंचित किया गया. सुमन द्वारा अभिनीत ‘नुगरा का तमासा’ (2015) बेहद सराहनीय प्रचलित एकल अभिनय है जिसे वे बिना आलेख, किस्सागोई के अपने विशिष्ट अंदाज़ में जीवंत अभिनीत करते हैं.
